I am delighted to be a Coordinator of Instructional Support for the 2018-19 school year. I have been an educator for over 22 years, with 20 years being in the Summit Hill School District. Formerly, I taught Spanish and served as World Languages Department Chairperson at Summit Hill Jr. High. Prior to my work at Summit Hill, I taught fourth grade in an integrated bilingual (Spanish/English) classroom in Cook County School District 130 in Blue Island, Illinois. Additionally, I serve as an adjunct professor/consultant, teaching in-service teachers and teacher candidates, in the Education Department at Saint Xavier University in Chicago. I earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Education degree with a major in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I also earned a Master of Arts degree in Education as a Reading Specialist from Saint Xavier University as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. What does a Coordinator of Instructional Support do? • Build strong and trusting relationships with teachers, administrators and other professional staff • Work with teachers to align instruction and assessments toward learning standards • Facilitate cross-observations to see and learn from other classrooms • Study student achievement and teacher implementation data to continue to inform district of continued progress and change • Learn and provide evidenced based strategies to teachers • Collaborative sharing of information, strategies, resources and encourage implementation • Establish a common vocabulary, background knowledge and experience; and collaborative relationships Please reach out to me any time you have questions or concerns.
