Week of October 8th - 12th

Dear Parents,
October has arrived!  The CUBS made a SHORT post season appearance, the BEARS are at the top of the NFC North (WHAT!?!?), and it is hockey season!!  GO HAWKS!!  Life is good :)!
Our next two stories in reading are:
How Animals Communicate
High Frequency Words - animal     how     make     of     some     why
Spelling Words –in     will     did     sit     six     big     trip     grin     chill     drip
A Musical Day
High Frequency Words - her     now     our    she     today     would
Spelling Words – on     got     fox     pop     not     hop     flop    sock     block     clock
I will test words from our last 3 stories on Tuesday, October 9th.
We just completed our Chapter 2 test in math.  We will be learning several different strategies for addition.   We will continue to practice addition using doubles, doubles plus 1 and doubles minus 1.  I know these strategies might be a little tricky.  Hopefully, they will become easier with more practice.
Our class t-shirts will be ordered this week! I can’t wait to see how they turn out.  We really have some adorable self-portraits. Too cute!
Our class will be doing a pumpkin carving activity as we get closer to Halloween (date yet to be determined).  I will be sending home more information and a volunteer note soon. If you are interested in coming in to help please fill out the form and return it to school.  Remember, you will need to show an ID when you volunteer.  It should be SPOOK -tacular!!  Thank you in advance!
Please keep reading for Book It!  You can return your calendar after 20 days have been completed.  All calendars are due on or before November 1st.  Parents, please don’t forget to sign the calendar before returning it.  Thank you!
If you are ordering books for your child through Scholastic, please place your order online no later than Tuesday, October 9th.  Thanks again!
*Don’t forget-No School Monday, October 8th-Columbus Day
Your help and support are truly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Joyce Chakos :)
