Newsletter

Week of April 22nd - 26th
Dear Parents,

The school year is flying by so quickly!  Before you know it, it will be May!  At times it still feels like December, but hopefully that is changing soon!

Our story again next week is What Can You Do?  The words for this story are:
Spelling Words - hard     harder     hardest     fast     faster     fastest      sooner     slow     slower     slowest

High Frequency Words – always     different     enough     happy     high     near     once     stories

We have been learning about opinions.  We will be writing an opinion paragraph.  Children will need to state their opinion and give reasons to support their opinion.  We have been practicing in our journals so far.

In math, we will continue working on 3 dimensional shapes in our geometry chapter, and 2-digit addition and subtraction as a supplement to the next two chapters.

In science, we are learning about plants and animals.

In social studies, we are learning about Earth Day, the 7 continents, and Cinco de Mayo.  Our tie-dye t-shirts turned out great!  Please remember to have your child wear his/her shirt on Tuesday, April 23rd!

The first grade classes will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo in the afternoon on Friday, May 3rd.  Each family has been assigned 1 item to bring in for our FIESTA.  We have already started receiving items – thanks!!  If you would like to volunteer for our fiesta we don’t turn anyone away!  If you are interested in helping, please complete and return the form. Muchas Gracias!

The first grade classes will be going to The Center – Children’s Farm in Palos Park on Wednesday, May 8th.  Thanks so much for returning your payment and permission slips in a timely manner.  Thanks to so many of you who volunteered.  I am so sorry I can only take a few of you!  The chaperones for this trip will be Mrs. Geyer, Mrs. Kim, and Mrs./Mr. DiGioia.  Thanks again ????

Please return spring pictures or picture money to school as soon as possible.  Thank you!

Thanks again for all of your support and encouragement!

            Sincerely,
            Mrs. Joyce Chakos :)
