Welcome to second grade! 
Just a few reminders.
* Students have P.E. daily. Please have your child wear gym shoes or pack them.
* Students can have a healthy snack.

December 10,2018 to December 14,2019
Reading:   We will read an informational  text called Super Storms. We will focus on identifying the main idea and details of a text.
We will also read different versions of the Gingerbread Man. We will compare stories and do many different activities. 
Vocabulary: The vocabulary strategy is to identify compound words.The vocabulary words this week are beware, damage, bend, flash, pounding, prevent,reach, and equal.
Grammar:  We will work on identifying what a verb is. 
Spelling /PhonicsThe spelling pattern is consontant diagraphs. The diagraphs are th, sh, wh, ch, tch, and ph. The  list will go home on Monday, December 10. The spelling assessment will take place on Friday, December 14.
Math:  We will continue working on Chapter 4. Students will work on 2 digit addition in Chapter 4.  Students will need to continue to work on basic addition and subtraction facts. Students will learn many strategies such as breaking apart a number to add,addition without regrouping, and with regrouping.
Social Studies: We will study the life of the Najavo. 
Notes went home about ThinkCentral. Please feel free to use ThinkCentral at home to read our current story or to utilize the math portion. I assigned math lessons for the students to complete at school or at home. You can find the math lessons under the "To Do" tab on ThinkCentral. Please contact me if you have any questions. 
Summative Reassessments: Summative reassessments will be given when students receive a D/F. A form will be sent home when reassessment is needed. The form needs to be completed and returned to school. 
 
We recently started a new Internet Safety Curriculum called Common Sense Media.  This program focuses on teaching students to make safe, smart, and ethical decisions online.  Please look for the weekly family note for the topic covered each week.  For more information about Common Sense Media visit the following web page: Common Sense Media
