-Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year! This year I will be the Special Education teacher in the Co-Taught classroom, as well as, a resource teacher at the kindergarten level. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and working with you and your family! Here's to a great school year!

Assignments

Dear Partners in Education, Please check your child's blue homework folders for what we have worked on in our sessions and practice the skills noted. You will be able to circle each day that you work on it at home with your child. By doing so, we are instilling good study habits at an early age. If your child practices at home and the days are circled on their homework page, they will receive a sticker. Once the student reaches 10 stickers, they can pick a prize from the treasure box.

Kindergarten Reading:

One goal is for our students to read the sight words presented in class to become readers. Then we work on the fluency or the ability to read a text accurately, quickly, and with expression.  Fluency is important because it provides a bridge between word recognition and comprehension.

We are also working on comprehension of text.  When reading with your child at home, stop to ask questions about what you have just read and see if s/he is able to tell the story back to you in their own words.   We will also discuss the characters, settings, and the beginning, middle, and end of the stories.
