Week of February 18, 2019
No School on Monday - President's Day
Tuesday - February Super Moon - known as the Snow Moon
Reading:  We will read "Helen Keller"  
Genre: Biography
Vocabulary Words: knowledge, curious, motion silence, illness, imitated, darkness, and behavior
High Frequency Words: all, food, front, hair, never, party, sky, started, stories, and warm
Spelling words:  long "o" words - patterns are "o", "oa", and "ow" - own, most, soap, float, both, know, loan, goat, flow, loaf, throw, coach
Language Skills: Proper nouns
Vocabulary Strategies - suffixes -ly
Math:  Chapter 6 - we will be going over lessons subtracting with 3 digit numbers.  We will be subtracting across zeros. I am planning a test for Wednesday or Thursday.  It will depend on how they do with each lesson.  Please remember, I am teaching different strategies so the students can solve a math problem.  They will need to show the work.  I am pacing the lessons, some will take one day and some may take two days.  Please watch for homework.  If you do not see homework, then have them practice their math facts.  
Science:  Slow changes to land - we will be learning how different storms/weathering can change our land quickly. 
Our new vocabulary words are the following:

Earth events -natural things that happen and change the shape of land
Observe - to notice something with your senses
Source - a place where something comes from
Time period - an amount of time, such as an hour, a day, a year, etc.
Evidence - information that supports an idea
Weathering - when forces on Earth break rocks apart or wear rock away
Erosion - the gradual wearing down by wind, water, and other natural forces
Social Studies:  We will be learning about Pilgrims.  
Handwriting: Cursive is moving along.  We are practicing our letters so we can learn how to be neat when we write our names.
Summative Reassessment Forms will be handed out for when students recieve a "D" or "F".  The form needs to be returned for the reassessment to happen.  Please note the date the reassessment will be given.
