Math:  We starated Chapter 3 - Basic Facts and Relationships

We will be working on lessons 3.7 and 3.8,  this week.  We are taking our time to learn new strategies to solve math problems.  We have been using dice and dominoes to learn about doubles and doubles plus one.  I will be adding playing cards to show less than and greater than this week.  We will also be adding the cards together to help them with their math facts.  Homework will be practicing our facts and going on xtramath.org.  The homework will come home on the 2nd day we do the lesson.  So, homework (a worksheet) this week will be on Tuesday and Thursday for math.

Vocabulary words:  addends, sum, doubles, doubles plus one, and doubles minus one,

Please have your child work on xtramath.org this week.  We are working on recognizing the math facts.  We will be doing Rocket Math daily - so the lessons will take 2 days.  The homework may be practice math flash cards, go on ABCYa, go on xtramath.org, or play a game of cards - like WAR - who has the bigger card.  I will try and make this as fun as possible.

We are doing much better on our Math facts for Rocket Math!  Thank you for helping your child practice.  They are getting much quicker and getting the answers correct.  We are trying to be our last score!  They are doing great!

They were asking for a Choice Board for Math - maybe coming in December/January.

Science:  Diversity of Living Things - we will be having packets for animals in their habitats - the packets will include decoding facts with the cipher wheels, word mazes. word searches, and scavenger hunts to find information about certain animals.  The animals we will be learning about will be mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and sharks.

This scope ties into our technology - we are working on a wixie project - students are making a power point on an animal that they chose to learn more about.  We just finished marking the location on a map where we can locate their animal.  We are going to add their voices to the power point next week.  I am hoping this will be completed by conference time.

Please have your child practice Type to Learn at home.  One lesson a week would be great!  It will help with their typing skills at school.

Social Studies:  We will be finishing up our Keeping Rooms for the  Pilgrims Building A Village packet- this will go along with the Field Trip - where we will see how the first settlers lived in Naperville.
