• Summit Hill Junior High Hosts Band Camp

Band is preparing for upcoming performances

The Summit Hill Junior High Band is off to a great start to the 2022-2023 school year!

Band members spent the first week of August at a band camp held at the junior high, where they were busy learning new skills. The camp focused on team building and helping the students get to know each other as well as learning music for their upcoming performances.

The band’s first performance will be for the entire staff of Summit Hill School District 161 on Monday, Aug. 15 at the opening day teachers’ institute. The band will also perform at Walker Intermediate School on Aug. 26 to kick off the beginning band recruitment.

In addition, the band is prepping for its annual performance in the Frankfort Fall Festival Parade, which will take place on Sunday, Sept. 4. This will be the first parade for every member of the band since they were not able to participate in last year’s parade.

Marching and playing at the same time, staying in step while keeping correct spacing from left to right and front to back, maintaining intervals and having the music totally memorized requires a lot of practice and focus and this year’s band members have been working extremely hard on developing these new skills.

Mrs. Coughlin is very thankful for the college helpers that have volunteered so much time to help our students thrive and looks forward to the band’s upcoming performances!
