SHJH 7th Grader Earns VFW Essay Contest District Award

Congratulations to Summit Hill Junior High seventh grader Mia Dedic on advancing to the district level of the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen Youth Essay Contest! Her essay was submitted as part of a class assignment for Mr. Sullivan’s seventh grade ELA class.

The contest encourages students in sixth through eighth grades to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay expressing their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief. The 2024-25 theme was "My Voice in America's Democracy."

Dedic received her award at a dinner at the Tinley Park VFW on January 4.
