Mrs. Howard’s News Week of February 26 – March 2 IMPORTANT DATES: 1st – Hot Lunch / Comfy Clothes Day 2nd – ½ Day AM / Teacher Inservice PM 5th – No School – Pulaski Day Language Arts: Over the next few weeks, we will be doing PARCC practice for ELA. We will be exploring the test online set up and tools together. The students will also be reading passages and answering questions on a sample online test so that they are familiar with the format. This will include writing out answers. Hopefully this will alleviate test anxiety and help them to feel more confident when they take the PARCC tests for ELA in March. (The math PARCC tests will be in April). This week’s spelling words with /j/ or /s/ (test Friday): age space change jawbone jacket giant pencil circle once large dance jeans bounce huge nice place We will continue learning about correct capitalization and punctuation in language. MATH: We will take the Chapter 8 assessment on understanding fractions on Monday. We will then jump to Chapter 12: Geometry. Math Targets: We will continue to take 2 min. multiplication facts tests every Monday and Wednesday. Your child will be expected to complete 33 basic facts in 2 min. to move on to the next set of facts. SCIENCE / SOCIAL STUDIES: We will be reading Chapter 4 “Causes of the War” in our Magic Tree House Revolutionary War Fact Tracker books in social studies. We will be doing activities to learn about environmental traits in science.
