Mrs. Howard’s News Week of April 22-26 IMPORTANT DATES: 22nd – NO SCHOOL 26th – Treat Day / Wear Baseball Attire Family Night / Art Fair The Scholastic Book Fair will be at school this week! Our class will be visiting it on Tuesday and Wednesday. Language Arts: We will be reading the fantasy story Oliver K. Woodman this week. Our focus skills for this selection are sequence of events, formal and informal language, and analyze / evaluate. This week’s vocabulary words: sincere, managed, loaded, loveliest, conversations, inspired, reunion, currently, pleasure, terror This week’s spelling words with -ed and -ing endings (test Friday): coming swimming dropping taping tapping invited saving stared planned changing joking loved gripped tasted making stopped Unit 5: Capitalization and Punctuation We will continue our poetry writing booklets. MATH: We will begin learning about time and measurement in Chapter 10. Math Targets: We will continue to take 2 min. multiplication facts tests every Monday and Wednesday. Your child will be expected to complete 33 basic facts in 2 min. to move on to the next set of facts. SCIENCE / SOCIAL STUDIES: We will finish Chapter 6 – The Declaration of Independence in our Magic Tree House Revolutionary War books. In science, we will continue learning about life cycles. The students have begun research for a group life cycle project. We are expecting eggs to arrive on Tuesday! In a few weeks, we can expect to see chicks hatching. This is very fun and exciting for the kids. I’m sure you will be hearing about it!
