All students must have an updated physical in order to try-out and/or join a sport. Students who want to participate in the Athletic Programs Grades 5-8 must complete an Athletics Eligibility Form. All sections, including exam by physician, must be completed and signed in order for a student to tryout or participate in a sport. The physical is valid for thirteen months.This also includes intramurals: bowling, golf, fitness club, basketball and volleyball. A student will be denied participation or a try-out without a valid physical on file. Boys' Baseball is for 7th and 8th graders only. Tryouts and practices begin before the start of the school year. Practices begin the day after tryouts end. If an athlete makes the team, they must be present for practices/games Monday thru Saturday. A sports physical must be on file to try-out. Students pay a $20 activity fee and must turn in a uniform deposit. Other uniform fees apply; refer to handouts.
Boys' and Girls' Basketball is for 7th and 8th graders only. Practices begin the day after tryouts end. If an athlete makes the team they must be present for practices / games Monday thru Saturday. A sports physical must by on file to try-out. Students pay a $20 activity fee and must turn in a $75 uniform deposit. The girls' season begins in late August and runs through December and the boys' season begins in mid-October and runs through February.
SHJH offers two different opportunities for cheerleading: competitive and spirit cheerleaders.

The competitive cheer squad is a mixture seventh and eighth grade students. This squad competes at the state level as well as other competitions. These cheerleaders must be available to compete on the weekends. | There is one spirit squad that supports the boys' basketball players. They cheer at all home games. |

Boys' and Girls' Volleyball is for 7th and 8th graders only. If an athlete makes the team, they must be present for practices Monday thru Friday. A sports physical must by on file to try-out. Students pay a $20 activity fee and must turn in a uniform deposit. Tryouts and practices for the boys begin before the start of the school year. Practices begin the day after tryouts end. The boys play August through October and the girls' season begins in December and runs through March.
Come one, come all. This activity is coed for students with all ability levels. Golfers learn the basics of the golf swing as well as golf course etiquette. A current physical must be on file. This is a fall activity. First meeting is in the beginning of August. There is an individual IESA state series golf tournament that will take place in September. A student-athlete must attend at least 4-5 intramural golf sessions during the season in order to qualify for an IESA Sectional tournament. Intramural golf runs through late September. Summit Hill Junior High does not provide clubs, golf balls, etc. Green Fees / Payments due at end of season.
Open to all seventh and eighth grade students. It consists of at least eight sessions of bowling at Tinley Park Bowling Alley. Students are responsible for their own transportation from school to the bowling alley and from the bowling alley to home. This is both intramural and competitive bowling, so all ability levels are welcome to attend! A current physical must be on file. There is an individual and team state series in this event through the IESA. SHJH bowls on Tuesdays during the months of February, March, and April. The IESA state bowling tournament is held in April.
This activity is co-ed. Everyone is welcome. A physical must be on file to participate. This activity begins in March and runs into the month of May.
This is a co-ed club. Chess club usually meets on Fridays. Students of all skill levels are invited. Students play and learn against each other. There will be a tournament to conclude the season. The IESA sponsors a state series in this activity.
